The GROMOSTAR system is a highly effective and modern solution in the field of lightning protection for people and property. It is characterized by the fact that a lightning strike is drawn by a PDA GROMOSTAR lightning conductor with an early emission of the leader. This device contains an induction-capacitive module initiating the development of a bottom-up leader in conditions where the top-down leader, rapidly developing from the cloud, is in the final stage of choosing a place before hitting the building – a solution based on a Polish patent registered in many countries of the world. It works by producing ionization earlier than other elements of the protected building, which results in directing the lightning current directly at the lightning rod and then with the discharge wire towards ground.
GROMOSTAR lightning rods are used to protect all kinds of structures, buildings and open areas against direct lightning.
According to the Expert opinion of the Expertise Centre of the Association of Polish Electrical Engineers SEP, GROMOSTAR lightning rods are a new solution for lightning protection of constructed buildings and external spaces, characterized by greater efficiency than traditionally used solutions. GROMOSTAR lightning protection systems can be used in buildings where lightning protection is required. Lightning rods increase the effectiveness of protection by creating a higher probability of the location of the discharge. This discharge due to the creation of pre-ionization conditions occurs faster than in the conditions of the traditional vertical lightning rod.
GROMOSTAR lightning rods have been tested in terms of efficiency, environment and high-current in high-voltage laboratories: SIAME at Pau University in France, at the Institute of Plasma Physics and Laser Microsynthesis in Warsaw and at the ITB Building Materials Laboratory in Warsaw, which confirmed the compliance of these products with NF C 17-102 (2011-09) standards and PN-EN 50164-1: 2010. In addition, additional tests carried out at the University of Pau's High Voltage Laboratory SIAME confirmed the greater effectiveness of GROMOSTAR lightning rods compared to the classic Franklin lightning rod* (*Test reports are available on request.)
The INSTITUTE OF ENERGY Research Institute in Warsaw confirmed the positive results of laboratory tests and the use of GROMOSTAR lightning protection systems in lightning protection systems, as well as the product's compliance with the requirements of NF C 17-102: 2011 and PN-EN 62561-1: 2012 by granting an IEn CERTIFICATE 002/2016 of 18-05-2016).
The lightning protection production process at ORW-ELS is subject to the requirements of the ISO 9001: 2008 quality management system and the rules of the Qualifoudre INERIS French Institute of Industry and Risk.
GROMOSTAR lightning conductors are protected by patents in Poland and abroad.
In individual construction, usually one properly installed lightning conductor on a lightning mast is sufficient. When installed on a free-standing mast, the protection area can include several buildings. Savings resulting from the use of GROMOSTAR installations can reach 50% of the costs of conventional installations.
The results of an analysis of the lightning protection installation costs for an industrial facility with dimensions of 250x250m made in I and IV protection level: the installation of GROMOSTAR lightning rods allows the saving of 47% of the costs compared to a traditional installation at the IV level. However, at level I, the cost difference reaches up to 72% in favour of the GROMOSTAR lightning protection technology. It can be assumed that the larger the building to be protected at the higher level of lightning protection, the higher the savings in with PDA technology.
It is also worth mentioning the costs associated with the subsequent operation of the installation. Due to the obligation for snow removal from the roof during winter, in the case of traditional installations equipped with horizontal joints, they often suffer severe damage, including tearing off. The use of GROMOSTAR lightning rods eliminates this problem.
